Arrival
Yard supervision begins at 8:35 a.m. Students are to report to the school yard (gymnasium during inclement weather) upon arrival. Breakfast is served from 8:35 a.m. - 9:05 a.m. in the cafeteria. At 9:05 a.m. students line up according to homerooms.
Attendance
When a student is late or absent, the parent should contact the main office before or on the day the student is to be absent. When the student returns to school, he/she must bring a note giving the reason for the absence, and the parent or guardian's signature. This note should be given to the classroom teacher to be placed in the student's file.Students arriving after 9:30 a.m. must report to the main office before going to class. Parents of students with frequent tardies and absences will be contacted by the social worker or counselor for appropriate follow-up.
The SLPS Attendance Policy
For each 29 minutes to 1 hour a student is not present, the permanent record will be marked 1 hour of absence. The School day is 6 hours. A student will receive a Kennard Perfect Attendance Certificate for the year is he/she is present 174 days. Consideration will be given to students who have been absent only 1-3 hours of the possible 1044 school year hours.
Breakfast / Lunch Program
Meal applications will be sent home within the first two weeks of the startup of school. The lunch status will be determined and sent home. The lunch status from the year before will be utilized until current status is determined. Students who did not attend Kennard the previous year MUST pay full price until status is determined. Breakfast and Lunch money is collected daily.*(Cash Only)

Cafeteria
The School cafeteria is located on the ground floor of the main building. Students must eat all food in the cafeteria. Students are responsible for cleaning their place before leaving.
Calendars
School calendars of activities, meetings, menus, programs, etc. are sent home monthly, September through May.
Change of Address
Parents are asked to notify the school immediately of any change in address, telephone number, employment, etc. The Transportation Division should be notified if a new bus route is needed.
Class Rules
Teachers will post their classroom rules. All rules are in accordance with district policy and relevant consequences may be assigned for breaking rules. Positive consequences are provided for adhering to rules.
Classwork
Students are expected to complete assignments during the school day. Unfinished assignments are to be considered homework.
Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are by appointment. Conferences will not be conducted when teachers are providing instruction or supervising students. District Parent-Teacher conferences are held in October and March. Additional conferences to discuss a student's academic progress or behavior may be requested by the parent, guardian, teacher or an administrator.
Counselor
The counselor is available for conflict mediation and general guidance. Parents or teachers may request counseling.
Discipline
Students are expected to comply with all classroom, school and district rules. Students breaking those rules will receive consequences including but not limited to student conferences, telephone calls to parents, Parent Help Needed Form, parent conferences, reparation of damages, suspension or expulsion. Dismissal 4:08 p.m.
The end of the school is a very busy time. It is requested that you meet your child at the Potomac Street entrance after 4:08 p.m. Please allow your child to participate in normal dismissal unless there is an emergency. Teachers will not conduct conferences during dismissal.Early Dismissal - Parents must place in writing a request for a student's early dismissal. Written requests must indicate the reason, date, and time of dismissal. Parents must meet and sign the student out at the main office. Phone calls to parents to confirm written notes will be made by school personnel.
Dress Code
The Kennard uniform is strongly encouraged but still very flexible. It allows students/families to mix and match two color bottoms and three color tops in whatever configuration they wish. In addition, Kennardwear and Spiritwear are allowable as uniform clothing. The uniform also allows for individuality in socks, tights, and shoes.

Clothing NOT allowed at school...
- Extremely brief, tight and cut-off attire.
- Clothing with large cuts and/or holes in areas where the body is normally covered.
- Halter and midriff tops, blouses or shirts.
- Tee shirts with tasteless, inappropriate slogans and/or pictures.
- High-heeled sandals, heel-less shoes that are noisy and dangerous.
- Unfastened, unbuttoned, sagging shorts or pants.
- Attire that is unsafe.
- Unless "Hat Day", no hats in the building.
Emergency Drills
Fire drills are required monthly. Everyone is to respond quickly and calmly and leave the building through the assigned exit. Tornado and other emergency drills will be conducted periodically. Students are to follow directions of teacher. If an emergency drill occurs while a student is out of the classroom, the student should move with the class closest to him/her.
Emergency Calls
Parents will be called immediately in cases of accidents, illness, or emergencies. Please provide parent or guardian phone number and a contact person in case you can not be reached. Back to TopField Trips
Supervised field trips will be approved by an administrator. Field trips are educational, enriching experiences that serve to enhance and reinforce classroom learning. In order to attend a field trip, the Field Trip Form must be filled out and signed by the student's parent/guardian.* Telephone calls will not be accepted. A parent will be asked to accompany a student with frequent inappropriate behavior on future field trip experiences.
Fighting
Fighting is considered inappropriate behavior. All students involved will be disciplined according to District Guidelines. "Zero Tolerance for Fighting"
Fund Raising
All fund raising projects are approved by the principal and the executive director. No one is permitted to sell items on school property that benefit any outside organization without proper authorization.*Students are not to sell items door to door.

Grading
All students will receive an Interim Progress Report to take home to be signed and returned during the sixth week of school. Interim Report Cards will be mailed after the fifteenth, twenty-fifth, and thirty-fifth weeks of school to homes of students needing improvement. Report Cards are given to parents during Parent-Teacher Conference and sent home at the end of each semester. Reporting days are recorded on the district calendar. Our new report cards require a holistic assessment of classwork, projects, test, homework and the consistency of utilizing acquired concepts.
Homework
Homework is essential to reinforce or enrich concepts taught in the classroom. Homework may be given in any subject. Homework may take many forms: unfinished classwork, research, interviews, written assignments, reports, revising written materials, data collection, silent reading, viewing informational/educational television programs, etc. Please provide a time and quiet place for homework. If you find your child is experiencing a great deal of difficulty completing the assignment, write a note to the teacher indicating a need for further teacher assistance. Diana M. Honor Roll
Outstanding student achievement, citizenship and attendance are recognized several times a year with school-wide announcements, certificates and other incentives.
Inclement Weather
School closings or snow schedules are announced on major television and radio stations.

Lost and Found
Students can look for lost items or place found items in the basement between the two bathrooms. Clothing is hung on a clothing rack and loose items are on the table underneath. Money, jewelry and etc. should be turned in to the main office.
Needs Assistance Program
Students experiencing academic difficulties in reading and/or mathematics will be provided tutoring services. Parents will be notified of academic needs and progress.
Nurse
In order to dispense medication, the nurse must have a medication form signed by a physician. Please provide the nurse information regarding any special health concern. Only prescribed medication can be given (SLPS Policy). Parents should bring and pick up medications.

Parent Involvement
Parents are encouraged to observe in classrooms, provide suggestions, work on committees, select new textual materials, etc. there are several standing Parental Organizations and Committees, School-Based Committees, Missouri School Improvement Committee (MSIP) and Parent Assembly. A parent office is located in the main office for PTO use, emergency calls, parent materials, etc.
Physical Education (P.E.)
All students are expected to participate in the physical education program unless they have a written medical excuse from a doctor on file. Students should bring shorts or sweat pants, athletic socks and gym shoes to wear for gym. Back to Top
Testing
The Saint Louis Public School District has published a yearly test schedule. Two basic tests are administered. They are the MAP and TerraNova tests. The instructional coordinator and counselor will be able to assist you with questions regarding this testing.
Textbooks
Students are responsible for textbooks. Parents will be expected to pay for lost or damaged books. Students are issued one set of books and must being them to class each day.
Transportation
Students riding the bus must obey bus rules as outlined in the Student's Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. Students must sit quietly in their seats and follow all directions given by the bus driver. Students creating a disturbance on the bus may receive a bus suspension. During a bus suspension, parents must provide transportation for the student to and from school.
