Safety Reminder
Parents please remember when dropping students off at school, park on the street or park at the south end of the yard. When picking up students please park your car and go and get them.Do not stop in the street while they run out to or from the car.
Be cautious and respectful of buses entering and leaving the yard. The safety of our children depends on your cooperation.
Safety Reminder
The PTO Kennard Safety Committee is off and running. We have equipped each classroom with a "Safety Kit" to use in case of an emergency or disaster. The Kit is a black book bag and includes a class list, flashlight/crank radio/cell phone charger, whistle, basic first aid kit, and other safety items. We are also working on getting additional volunteers to help on the playground before and after school. We have contacted the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Cardinal Ritter Senior Services in hopes of locating volunteers. We could also use parent help too. Volunteers do need to be a St. Louis Public School "Approved Volunteer" (applications available in the Kennard Office). Volunteers are needed 8:30-9:15 a.m. and 4:00-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. A volunteer vest/hat and whistle will be provided. Please contact Sheryl Trask at 314/481-9773 or sheryltrask@earthlink.net for more information.

Uniform
The Kennard uniform is strongly encouraged for the 2007-2008 school year, yet is very flexible. It allows students/families to mix and match two color bottoms and three color tops in whatever configuration they wish. In addition, Kennardwear and Spiritwear are allowable as uniform clothes. The uniform also allows for individuality in socks, tights, and shoes. The selected uniform is navy blue, white or gold shirt/blouse with or without a collar and khaki or navy blue pants, shorts, skirt, jumper, or slacks.
NOTES:
Shirts and blouses may be short or long sleeved, and should not have
any pictures, ornamentation, etc. on them. Any of the three colors are
acceptable on any given day. Kennardwear or Spiritwear shirts are
acceptable as part of the uniform.
Pants/slacks may include jeans this year. Either of the two colors are acceptable on any given day. All Kennardwear or Spiritwear shorts are acceptable as part of the uniform.

Scholastic Book Fair
PTO Board Members Monica Farrar and Melissa DeHart co-chaired the Scholastic Book Fair for 2007-2008. The Book Fair was a huge success.ONE FOR BOOKS was a collection we did during the Book Fair and allowed us to collect spare change or cash donations, which went directly back to our book fair profits. In addition Scholastic matched our collection in free books to literacy nonprofit organizations. St. Louis Charter School raised $1,200 last year just by collecting change. We placed empty milk cartons in every classroom and had a contest for the classroom that collected the most spare change. The winning classroom received an EXTRA RECESS. This program was a great way to boost our book fair profits and help promote reading for kids who are less privileged.
Thanks to those of you who participated and purchased items or donated to the ONE FOR BOOKS program.
Current Year Round Fundraisers
Here is a list of year-round fundraisers that help support your PTO. Please take a moment to review this list and see how easy it is to help out by doing things that are already part of your routine. Don't forget to tell family members and neighbors too!
Saint Louis Public Schools Foundation, Friends of Kennard:
As of December 16, 2003 twenty-four families have donated $5,820 to the SLPS Foundation, Friends of Kennard. Additionally we should
have company matching donations of $450. You can make your tax deductible contribution to Saint Louis Public Schools
Foundation and write Friends of Kennard in the memo section. This ensures the money will go specifically for Kennard.
You may send your contribution care of the PTO at school or to the Saint Louis Public School Foundation at 1111 Olive
Street, Saint Louis, MO 63101. Thanks for your support!
Box Tops 4 Education:
For each "Box Tops" label, KCJA receives 10 cents. You can find labels on the following brands: General Mills cereals,
Betty Crocker fruit snacks and bake mixes, Yoplait multipacks and Go-gurt, Lloyd's Barbeque, Green Giant frozen vegetables,
Pilsbury refrigerated and frozen products, Old El Paso and Bisquick.
Tyson Project A+:
For each Tyson label, KCJA receives 24 cents. Send in the "Project A+" redemption label on all Tyson chicken products
(bags and boxes).
Office Depot:
At the checkout, tell the clerk that you want your purchase to go to "Kennard CJA" or mention our ID number 70057804.
You don't need the number but it might make check out go faster.
Target:
KCJA receives a percentage every time you use your Target Visa at Target (1%) or anywhere else (1/2%) but ONLY if you
have designated KCJA as your school. Call 800-316-6142 to designate Kennard (ID number 68830), or write in Kennard
